Bearpark & Esh Colliery Band
This is our new website which is currently under construction. I changed this page on Monday 27 February 2012

Beginners
The Bearpark and Esh Colliery Band are a 3rd Section band based in Esh Winning, approx 6 miles west of Durham City. The band have their own rehearsal premises which have undergone renovation recently. There is no setting stands and chairs up and putting them away for rehearsal, or humping loads of percussion around, we just turn up, rehearse, and walk away at the end, bliss.
Upgraders
If you are an experienced Joomla! 1.5 user, this Joomla! site will seem very familiar. There are new templates and improved user interfaces, but most functionality is the same. The biggest changes are improved access control (ACL) and nested categories. This release of Joomla! has strong continuity with Joomla! 1.6 while adding enhancements.
History
Although there was a colliery band in Esh Winning before the 2nd World War, the present band was formed in 1950 by eight men who each initially contributed £8 to start an instrument fund.
The next two years were spent raising money so that, with the help of the National Coal Board, they were able to purchase a set of second-hand instruments and thus form the Esh Winning Colliery Welfare Band. At this time the Cornsay Colliery Band folded, this enabled the newly formed band to fill the vacant instrumentation.
